Hina Joshi, a business expert at the government's support service for businesses, said that virtual offices are becoming an increasingly popular option.
"A lot more people are tending to use virtual office facilities. It gives the impression that they're a lot bigger than they actually are," commented Ms Joshi.
She went on the say that businesses can also appear more "established" than they really are.
Research from Barclays revealed that a record 471,500 new businesses opened in 2007, the highest annual volume since Barclays started the surveys in 1988.
New businesses looking to save costs without compromising on the look of their company may want to consider virtual offices, which can provide a prestigious address as well as client meeting rooms and other services.
