Natural History Museum introduces remote working

The Natural History Museum in London has introduced remote working for its staff thanks to a new IP communications network.

Employees can now work at multiple sites, from their own home or even while they are travelling as teleworkers will only have to use a single number to connect to the network.

"Teleworking means we are making significant cost savings on telephone equipment and call costs," said Bob Escourt, group telecoms manager at South Kensington Museums.

"Teleworkers now use the IP network instead of mobile phones when working from home."

Allowing staff to work remotely came about following the museum's decision to switch to an IP communications network last year.

By switching to teleworking, it is hoped that staff can work more efficiently and also gain a better work-life balance.

The technology is now being rolled out in stages as Mr Escourt said that the museum "wanted to converge our voice and data functions at a steady pace to avoid major disruption".

Executive Offices Group offers a virtual office service which enables companies to base themselves in a remote location and utilise a central London address thus allowing staff to work remotely and remain more productive. track
