Eating Out in London: Good Food & New Restaurants

Feb 11th 2011

As we’re fond of saying on the London Hotspots blog, there is never a shortage of things to see and do in London, and this is never more true than when talking about restaurants and eating out. We’ve rounded up some of the best new openings as well as some alternative dining choices for those looking for something a bit different.

New London Restaurants

There are some fresh new places to eat in London this year, with the Fitzrovia, Soho and Marylebone areas all seeing interesting restaurants opening up that demand a visit.

Salt Yard is a great Mediterranean restaurant near the West End. It is dark, sleek, calm and classy – perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of London. The restaurant is renowned for its good food and deserves a visit if you are eating out in London, serving plenty of fresh dishes, including salads and fish dishes. The proprietors of Salt Yard have now opened a new restaurant – The Opera Tapas Bar & Restaurant – in Covent Garden which promises to be just as much of a hit as its sister establishment, just around the corner from our London serviced offices at Hudson House.

Busaba is a chain of restaurants with locations all over London, and is a great place to experience a perfect mix of stylish decor and Thai food. With one branch located near Soho, it fits in nicely with the surrounding area and is a great place to dine with friends or clients, conveniently near London serviced offices on Garrick Street. Busaba has recently opened a new restaurant in the Westfield Centre, and if work or personal time takes you out there, it’s highly recommended.

Further afield in the East End of London, good food is on the up, with new London restaurant Brawn recently opening in Bethnal Green to rave reviews. This restaurant is perfect for a quick bite to eat, and is fairly inexpensive, trading predominantly in tasty French cuisine.

Economy Dining

With the recession still nipping at the heels of most consumers, economy dining is likely to be one of the most popular ways to eat out in London this year.

  • Stockpot is a ‘British bistro’ which serves classic-style British food with prices ranging from £4 to £8.
  • Golden Union fish bar is a classic fish and chip shop, with huge portions and good honest prices.
  • Rasa Sayang offers Malaysian cuisine with small prices and full, rich flavours.

Eat Healthy: Dine on a Detox

Good food is still on the menu even if you are trying to eat healthily. As a result, many restaurants are adding detox menus and healthier alternatives. Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill is offering a detox menu with tasty food, low on calories and high in essential vitamins and minerals. Mango Tree, situated in the heart of Belgravia seconds away from London serviced offices at Grosvenor Crescent and Eaton Gate, is offering the same, with a new menu of healthy specials to keep those New Year’s resolutions going. Raw food menus are also popping up at London restaurants such as Raw, Saf and VitaOrganic.
